Read MoreAre team retreats a key piece of your business success? They are here at Slater Success. In fact, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of getting together. Team retreats give my team and I the opportunity to check in on company culture and how we are all working together. We reflect on marketing, sales and financial goals and team plans. This week, we'll decide what we want to refine what we're working on, plan new ideas moving forward and decide what we want to achieve the rest of the year. If you have a larger team, it's a good idea to bring on a facilitator. It's hard to be the leader in the meeting and run the meeting at the same time. When is your next team retreat and what will you be preparing for?
Read MoreIt was a few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon. I took my mom to lunch to see one of her friends from kindergarten, yes, kindergarten. These women have stayed in touch and maintained a friendship throughout their entire lives. My mom’s friend also brought her son, I have known him my entire life. We were all chatting and catching up and of course, the conversation turned to business.

Ron Alvesteffer, President and CEO of Service Express, joined me last week on Slater Success Live, my LinkedIn show and over 100 people were logged in and listening live, when tech issues caused an interruption. I found myself shifting from interview mode to speaking and presentation mode, while Ron’s team promptly got him back on, and it all went back to my training, do what you CAN do.

Read MoreTomorrow is Inauguration Day and it will look very different from prior years. I was reading in the New York Times the reason there is such a big gap between the end of an election and Inauguration Day was created by the authors of the Constitution, so the new government would have time to travel to DC during the winter. It actually used to be even longer, but was changed in 1933 when an amendment was made. What an interesting fact! It reminded me to always stay in education mode, keep learning, researching, reading, talking to people, asking questions. I like to think of this as market research mode.
