What Did You Learn from the Super Bowl?
Congratulations to the LA Rams, what a game!
My biggest takeaway from the game was that leaders are NOT defined by age.
Sean McVay, 36 years old, youngest coach to ever win a Super Bowl. He was also the youngest head coach ever hired by an NFL team at 33!
Joe Burrow, 25 years old, quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals, only his second year in the league and he brings his team to the Super Bowl.
Andrew Whitworth, 40 years old, oldest active player in the NFL (after Brady announced retirement) and left tackle for the LA Rams. Not only was he the recipient of the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year for his work with schools in the greater Los Angeles community, he is now a Super Bowl champ after 16 seasons in the league.
Another huge highlight was watching the players connect with their families after the win.
Rams quarterback, Matthew Stafford, with his wife and four daughters was magical. We all remember when Matthew’s wife had brain surgery in 2019. Such a great moment seeing them all together, healthy and happy.
And how about the proposal?! Rams safety, Taylor Rapp, took the opportunity to propose to his long-time girlfriend. What a day!
Rams wide receiver, Van Jefferson, had to leave as soon as the game was over because his wife went into labor during the game! He welcomed a baby boy and won the trophy all in one night. How amazing is that!
Rams defensive tackle, Aaron Donald saying he promised his daughter when she was 5 years old he would win and they were going to play in the confetti, it was a great moment. Seeing the tears and emotions from these men who put so much into their game was lovely.
It reminds us that our jobs and our careers are important and we work so hard to reach the level we want and achieve the goals we desire, but when we get there we want our family by our side! Family is everything. I am a believer that we vision and build a great life, building the businesses that support it.
I cannot talk about the Super Bowl without referencing some commercials. A few of my favorite commercials were FTX with Larry David, Lays with Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd and Amazon Alexa with Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson. There were a lot of celebrity cameos in the commercials this year for sure!
One of the other really cool commercials was for Coinbase. It was the one with just a scrolling QR code for 60 seconds. No words, no communication until the last second. It was so popular it actually crashed the app! This was immediate action for their return on investment.
Sometimes our big ideas are fantastic but can go wrong. We need to plan for what might happen and readjust as needed.
I leave you with something Coach McVay said in his locker room speech after the game.
“Great job, so proud of you guys man. We talk about the resilience, team effort all the way.”
Resilience and Team. Vital in all of our businesses and things we should focus on more in 2022!
