Shifts Happen

This is the year of shifts, am I right?!

I wanted to share one of my recent, personal shifts and how we can look at these with a silver lining.

My husband, Michael, celebrated his 60th birthday last week. Last year, before Covid was a household name, we were planning a weeklong vacation with 11 people.

We were going to rent a house in Pebble Beach, CA. The men had plans to golf. The ladies had plans to hike and check out some wineries. This was something Michael, and all of us, were really looking forward to. This was a big milestone birthday!

Obviously, our plans had to change.

I decided I would bring in a chef to cook a beautiful meal in the house and that Bryce and Alex would still be able to be there for the celebration, taking precautions with traveling and testing to ensure we could enjoy the time together as a family.

Just a few days before the big day was scheduled, the chef cancelled due to new restrictions.

Shift number three!

Bryce and Alex planned an awesome wine tasting with an expert over Zoom and we ordered in food and had a huge charcuterie board. It was still magical and we will always remember it, even though it looked nothing like our original plans. We even put a video together of the golf courses from Pebble Beach to create inspiration and excitement for the future.

This year we have all embraced so many new things. We've had to and we've had to make tough choices. The important part is we have had choices and one of the choices is how we look at the year overall for 2020. Do you see a silver lining or do you see a continuous challenge?

The silver lining in all of these shifts is that sometimes we are presented new opportunities, meet people we wouldn’t have met, try something we normally wouldn’t try and the end results are often greater than we expected.

Stay on your toes.

When a dancer goes on pointe, they literally support all their body weight on the tips of fully extended feet, wearing their pointe shoes. It seems lately, we’ve all been supporting the weight of the world on our shoulders. It’s time to stand tall, push away the mental blocks pulling you down and dance to the rhythm you’ve been given. I’m here as a resource, always.
