Why I Wrote Best of the Best
Best of the Best - Lead Boldly, Scale Rapidly, Create Your Legacy.
This book started with frustration and a question: “What Can I Do?”
During the early months of COVID, fear was everywhere. People were spiraling --- not just about life, but about business too. Based on personal experience of getting through 9/11, a recession, and Hurricane Sandy, I knew then, and I believe even more so now, that the real question is “What can I do right now to move forward?” This book has been a labor of love, inspired by the answers I’ve discovered throughout my business and life in response to the urgency of this question.
When I started writing Best of the Best, my main goal was to help business owners tackle real-life challenges by “Leading Boldly, Scaling Rapidly, and Creating Lasting Legacies.” The book isn't focused on theoretical ideas; it’s centered on the essence of what business truly demands. Inside, I’ve outlined practical, hands-on strategies that work, no matter what’s happening in the outside world.
These strategies work while catastrophes and pandemics may be raging all around us. You see, I’ve noticed that business doesn’t stop during these moments. And successful business leaders don’t stand still – they adapt, lead boldly, and build strategically.
Best of the Best is filled with practical approaches I’ve used and shared with business owners for years—real-world strategies, not just theory, that actually work. It’s practical. It’s real. It’s about building more innovative and stronger businesses. It’s also about what I’ve learned regarding creating a business by design, not by default.
The book has been written with several objectives to make your business run smoother and with optimal profitability. Best of the Best encourages business leaders to:
Think bigger for greater results
Do your numbers for more profits
Market with a strategy
Sell with savvy to scale
Encourage team-building for vital growth
Learn from real-world stories and practical worksheets
Build a business that works for you – and more
The crux of the book is about building the business, and not about getting the optimal selling price for your company.
A key part of the book features worksheets at the end of each chapter. As in my other books, I prioritize incorporating worksheets throughout, enabling readers to engage with practical content immediately rather than at the end. This approach fosters understanding, encouraging action to solidify comprehension. It makes the content more tangible and engages readers like a classic second-grade workbook. I would welcome reader feedback on how you like the worksheets and whether they are helping you take action (as is the intention).
I also believe that what sets this book apart is that we interviewed other leaders for the first time in constructing the narrative. We spent a couple of years conducting research and talking to leaders who have achieved extraordinary things. The inclusion of these additional voices enhances the book’s credibility and reinforces our core Slater Success principles.
In closing, I must acknowledge that “it takes a village” to get a book like Best of the Best , written, published, and supported professionally. The book would not have happened without:
