Is Your Business Aligned for Succession? Key Questions to Ask
Recently, I did a blog on the alignment in succession planning. I thought I'd explain a little bit what I mean by that.
First of all, you have to understand when I talk about alignment, I spent my early years dancing. To me, always as a dancer, your body had to be aligned, your head was over your shoulders, your ribs, your hips, your feet; that was great alignment.
How do you stay in the alignment? A strong core?
When I think about business and creating alignment for your business, I always think about where's your strong core? That is the heart of your business? And you are the heart of the business as a leader.
Are you aligned in what you want when you think about succession planning? Do you know what you want to do next? Are you going to be jumping into a new business?
I did that when I decided to leave printing and open Slater Success, I created a succession plan to close Slater Graphics.
Are you aligned with your finances, your sales, are you ready?
Are you looking for an acquisition? A merger? Are people rising up from within your next level of leaders, and are you developing them?
Some people plan that out 35 or even 10 years in advance. Is that aligned? What is your vision for your company in the future ? How do you fit in or don't you want to fit in?
I ask a question often that says, what do you want and why do you want it? What do you want in your life and why is that important to you? Is your business aligning with that?
When we look at succession, we want to make sure the alignment continues on.
