The Connection Between the Leadership Team, Strategy and Growth

I've been doing a lot of leadership team meetings and strategy sessions for 2023. The focus is on future growth, which has been wonderful and fun.

Here's a couple of things to be observant about in your leadership team.

Number one - it's wonderful when people have worked together for a while. You have this sense of family; you have the sense of, we know each other, we truly adore each other, love one another, and care about one another. Now, that is great and perfect when it shows up at the coffees, the lunches, and the cocktails.

Where it's not applicable is when it shows up in the meetings that it derails. Here are a couple of things to be aware of.

Have an agenda. Prepare an agenda for all meetings and stick to your agenda when you find yourself derailing having that one person that knows you're the one who brings it back, stick to the agenda. Everybody's time is incredibly valuable, especially if we put dollar amount around that.

Call things out. When you get together a full future growth meeting, you're going to be pushing one another out of your comfort zone. That is a given and that's okay. When you notice something derailing the meeting for a period of time, call it out.

Invest in a facilitator. If you know derailment is a pattern in your leadership team, bring in a facilitator. That investment is worth gold in making sure meetings are effective, powerful and move your agenda and your business forward for the long run.

People show up from a place of love and caring. Enjoy that and appreciate that you've built a leadership team that loves and cares about one another. Value that value in and of itself.
