5 Tips To Reach Your 2023 Goals
“A goal is a dream with a deadline.” - Napoleon Hill
One of my favorite quotes and one that is especially relevant as we kick off 2023. This is the time for New Year’s resolutions and goals of all kinds, both professional and business. How can you achieve them with the greatest success?
You start with a plan.
Your goal can be broken down into mini-goals and each of them will have their own steps and processes. By working at the smallest level first, you reach the bigger level with more ease. Your plan should be customized to how you work. Whether that’s a to do list on paper, a digital spreadsheet, a vision board, etc. Did you know that you are 42% more likely to reach your goals if you write them down? And currently less than 3% of people do that?
You take consistent action.
It doesn’t matter how small the action is, if it’s a task that gets you closer to the end goal, it’s worth being on the list. You will have multiple goals on the table at any given time, so every day should contain one action toward each, to keep everything on pace. You are 76% more likely to achieve your goals if you write action commitments and share weekly progress reports. Add your actions to your calendar just like you would client meetings.
You ask for help.
Support from your team, coach, mentor, family, friends. Whether you are delegating work or having someone come along as a companion in the journey, support is beneficial. A 2022 survey asked 2,000 Americans at what point they ask for help when starting something new and how they rely on their support system in life and found 73% don’t ask for help before they absolutely need it. How can you do this smarter? Embrace support as you will see the benefit in the results.
You adjust and pivot.
Things rarely work out exactly as you envisioned, especially when it comes to business, so the ability to adjust gives you an edge. And that adjustment can be modifying the goal completely, changing the roles team members play, adjusting the time frame, etc. Only 20% of managers say their organizations do a good job of shifting people across units to support strategic priorities.
You implement and do what you say you will do.
A study by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), surveyed 500 senior executives from companies with annual revenues of $1 billion or more and 90% of respondents admit that they fail to reach all their strategic goals because they don’t implement well. Be part of the 10%.
As you dive into the first quarter of 2023, keep these thoughts in mind as you work toward your goals. I wish you a prosperous and fulfilling year ahead!
