Inspiration From Phil's Big Win
What an accomplishment for pro golfer Phil Mickelson, winning the PGA Championship a few weeks ago and being the oldest golfer to do so at age 50.
Lesson #1: Age is not a factor in success.
I’ve said it many times, but it’s worth repeating. If you haven’t reached your goals, start taking action today. It’s never too late.
Phil is actually a 5-time major champion and has many other amazing credentials under his name, but something that really stood out for me was his work giving back with the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation, which started in 2004 and supports many youth and family initiatives.
He is all about family. He has been married to his wife, Amy, since 1996 and they have three children. His brother, Tim, became his caddy in 2017.
Mickelson also founded Birdies for the Brave, the PGA Tour’s national military outreach initiative. This organization raises money for charities supporting veterans and their families.
Lesson #2: Surround yourself with good people and good causes.
It’s easy to get caught up when success starts to come your way, but when you are grounded with a support team that is on your side and looks out for you and you work to provide service and help to others, you find real joy.
After this win, Phil said he is inspired by Tom Brady and how hard he works to be the best. Of course recently, Brady became the oldest quarterback to win a Super Bowl. Talk about two amazing athletes continuing to put in the effort and find wins. Phil hadn’t won a major championship since 2013 before this one. Brady even congratulated him on Twitter.
Lesson #3: Be inspired by others and let it motivate you to keep going.
When we face a failure in our lives, it’s easy to feel down, but Phil had a wonderful quote on this very topic…
“I've failed many times in my life and career and because of this I've learned a lot. Instead of feeling defeated countless times, I've used it as fuel to drive me to work harder. So today, join me in accepting our failures. Let's use them to motivate us to work even harder.” - Phil Mickelson
After your next big win what is the quote or sentiment you would put up on social media? Email it to me, honestly, just hit reply and share. I want to hear it.
Mine would go something like this… (I’m manifesting a Ted Talk)
“When you continue to show up, persevere and have your actions focused on the goal, plus mix in the right timing, milestones are achieved. I’m thankful for persistence, which led me to this opportunity. Getting on this stage is a dream I’ve had for many years and now that it’s coming true, I can start planning for the next big goal. Thank you to everyone who helped me get here. Let’s do this!”
