We Had A Wedding!!

If you’ve been following my social media, you know my daughter got married this past weekend! What an amazing and beautiful day. You’ll continue to  see a lot of posts upcoming so keep your eye tuned for them!

As I looked back over the year plus of helping her plan, it is easy to tie it into business and share some lessons we learned. They say how you do anything is the way you do everything.

When my daughter got engaged, it was not more than two weeks later when the world shut down. Talk about an unexpected wrench in the plans! We had no idea we would be planning a wedding during a pandemic. It was an adventure planning everything via Zoom.

While we thought we would be visiting venues and talking to vendors over coffee, we were now sitting in front of computer screens, meeting everyone virtually, taking virtual tours, etc. It was a very different experience than what we were prepared for, but guess what? It all worked out!

Yes, it was different. But when you don’t have to drive to a meeting and you can talk to a vendor on your lunch break, it does add a layer of convenience into the planning.

This is the same in business. You can meet someone very early in the morning on Zoom or have a late night meeting because you’re on different coasts. Technology connects us and you can build real and valuable relationships through the screen. We definitely learned that this year.

One of our main concerns was ordering. With many places backed up for months on various objects, it gave us a reason to really plan ahead. My daughter had to think about favors, gift bags, etc., far ahead of the day so we could have it all ordered in time. The issues in the supply chain are across the board in all industries.

In your business, this is always a good idea. What are you doing for the holidays? Shipping is still quite delayed, so that should be on your list right now. Your customary process might not work anymore. Always have a strategy behind your plan and look ahead.

A client recently shared that they feel like their 3-5 year plan is easier to build out than their 3 month plan, due to Covid, and I think we all feel like that. Every day feels unknown. But, we still need to plan and when we do it ahead of time, it gives us the time to shift and pivot, if needed.

Attention to detail was everything throughout this process. When we got to be a month or so out from the big day, we had weekly meetings with the wedding planner to make sure we were all on the same page and had our action items in check.

Are you checking in with yourself and your team weekly? Are you staying on top of your actions? Are you ready for changes? Are you celebrating?

Yes, at the end of all of this, it was a fantastic wedding and all the stress of planning melted away.

That is what happens in business. You reach the goal, you hit the revenue mark, you expand, whatever it might be - and then you go out there and you dance and you enjoy all your hard work!!
