Give Me A Break!

This past weekend was Memorial Day, a day to honor the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. This weekend is often viewed as an unofficial kick-off to Summer, but we must take time to remember what the day truly means.

This weekend was also my daughter Alex's birthday and it's usually a time when our home is filled with family and friends for her birthday.

This year looked very different, as we were only able to have a few family members over, outside so we could socially distance, but we still had one, amazing party!

Luckily, Alex’s fiance has been quarantined with us, so she was able to have him by her side, but we missed his family, along with my son, Bryce, and his girlfriend and countless other family and friends.

We still cooked a TON of food, steak dinner one night, appetizer night, a family favorite another night, bagels and lox for brunch, yes we are a food family! We laughed uncontrollably and even took a dip in the pool, our first of the season!

We made tie dye shirts as an activity and they turned out way better than we expected. In a world of the unexpected, it seemed almost fitting to do a project in which we had no idea what the end result would really be. We just trusted in it and went for it!

This is a reminder to TAKE A BREAK!

Events should continue and milestones should be celebrated in whatever way it makes sense for you and your family.

I hope you took some time this past weekend, but if you didn’t, please add it to your calendar soon. I know I needed one and so did my family. All we have been doing is working in our own respective places at the house for most of the day, so there isn’t much change in the routine.

We needed the long weekend, we needed our family, we needed a reason to celebrate. And so do you!

And sometimes, we just need alone time. I have been quarantined with family members, as you know, so taking time outside on the deck in the morning with my coffee, before anyone else wakes up has become a treasured moment and needed activity for me. It’s a great place to do my gratitude practice or a quick meditation on my phone.

We are coming into June, I can barely believe it. Summer is going to look different in all parts of the country. We won’t all be in the same situation anymore, as some states are seeing beaches and restaurants reopen, while others are still quite far away from anything like that.

Continue to take care of yourself and support those around you. It’s the same on the business side. Be there as a resource and keep those connections strong.
