Feeling Like An Adult These Days

I had a pretty fun realization the other day that my business is now entering adulthood. Yes, I look at my business and how it ages and we are feeling pretty grown up.

When I started SSC in 2008, I knew I wanted to help women entrepreneurs, but I couldn’t have guessed that in 2020 I’d be speaking worldwide, hosting a podcast, writing books, being on TV and working with major financial and legal corporations.

SSC was just a kid back in the day. We had a lot of dreams and goals, but we weren’t quite sure how we were going to get there or what would be the right fit for us. I remember back when my son was about three and wanted to be a garbage man because he loved the sound of the crunch at the back of the garbage truck. Now he is an adult working in the entertainment industry in LA. My early dreams of what SSC would be grew and evolved.

Then we ventured into the often awkward teen years and we tried to really find ourselves. It took us a year just to get our new website up and running because we were just a little uncertain about who we were.

Now, we have matured and feel confident in our abilities. We know what we want and we are ready to settle down into the business we’ve grown.

Your organization is at a certain phase right now. You might be a start-up and haven’t even delved into hiring or creating and supporting large teams and that’s scary to you.

You might be expanding and are really feeling those growing pains. You know you need to invest in order to grow, but what is right and how do you know?

You might be so big you are losing the ability to talk to staff 1:1 and you need someone to come in and moderate, be a voice for your team and help them in their own career journey.

The best advice I can give, no matter what phase your organization is in, is always be preparing for the next step.

My team and I have built out ideas for all the podcast series we want to host in 2020. As soon as we chatted and had a solid plan, I started to reach out. I have calls in, emails sent and coffee scheduled to secure amazing guests.

Even though a series slated for next September seems far away, it’s not. Time always goes a lot faster than we are ready for.

Look ahead. Don’t get too stuck inside what is happening right now to forget about the future of your organization and your team.

SSC is growing, expanding our offerings and entering brand new territory in 2020. I’m excited to share what we learn through our growth and help you in yours.
