Mindset And Success
We’ve spent a lot of time over the past few weeks talking about systems and processes and this week I want to focus on mindset. Having a positive mindset has a large impact on success. When our mindset derails, all things including our business, have the ability to derail. As leaders, it is important to be aware of the mindset in which you show up.
Meditation, gratitude, self-care - there are many names for the simple act of taking a moment to pause and reflect.
For me personally, a combination of gratitude practices, guided meditation and traveling are at the top of my list. When I know I should reset, I need to get out of my own space, out of my own head and take that pause.
A day at the beach. A trip to visit my kids. A spa day with my girlfriends. Each one of those is a true joy for me and one that allows me to focus on the present. Enjoy the company, have great conversations, talk to others about what is happening in their life. When I don’t have the time for something big, I will step outside and take a walk for 15 - 20 minutes to clear my head, breathe in fresh air and refocus for the important tasks ahead.
Because of those conversions and relaxing moments, I come out with a clearer head, new ideas, a boost of motivation and a higher level of creativity. I recently went away for an overnight and while sitting outside new ideas with clarity and actions were right before my eyes on something we are now implementing.
Think about what brings you the most joy and allows you to step out of the day-to-day mindset and into one of expansion and growth.
You need to do the same for your team. At Slater Success we hold twice yearly retreats, usually virtual, to bring everyone together in the planning process for the next 3-6 months ahead.
It’s a chance to step away from the to-do list and instead get into a vision mindset. Plus, the more brain power working together, the better. My team is full of smart and wonderful people with specific skills.
If you have a large company, think about doing a retreat with certain groups at a time, so that everyone feels engaged and heard.
If you have the opportunity to meet in person, that is an excellent option, but from my experience, you can get great energy and get a lot accomplished online, too. It is a matter of how you set it up.
Summer is around the corner so this is a good time to look at vacation policy, time off, half-days, etc. Why is your company the place to work? Are you offering incentives for your team? Are you creating a strong community within your work environment and your people? What can you do to provide a workplace that is welcoming and allows them to focus on their life outside of the office, too?
Poll your team and see if they would like to do something together once a quarter. A community day working at the food bank. A trip to the amusement park. Potluck Fridays. Whatever works for you and your team to foster communication and support.
Everyone deserves to feel happy and fulfilled in their work and in their life.
